monday musings: where do you re-charge?

Kure Beach, NC

Kure Beach, NC

Going to the beach helps recharge my soul. The year I began songwriting, I also vowed to get to the beach as often as I could. I live a good 3-4 hour drive from many NC/SC beaches. I managed to make it 6 times that year. I went to six different beaches in different seasons, with different friends.

The Beach and The Ocean.

The Beach holds happy childhood memories, sand and Coke to wash down salty mouths, swimming and visiting, laughing, good food, refreshing dip after basking in the hot sun. The Beach is summer.

The Ocean is my respite, my soother, where I witness the divine. The Ocean is anytime of year. The shore is bare of bodies in the winter and the waves beckon in spring. I can hear the Ocean and myself in those seasons where The Beach is forgotten. She was hard to hear this weekend, but I grabbed a few moments of meditation with the Ocean divine in between walking, playing and watching, sweating and swimming, singing and strumming, reading, and kissing.

My 6th trip that year inspired my first love song… to the Ocean. (partial lyrics to my song Ocean Divine ©2016)

May you have a respite, a safe-haven to re-charge too!

Ocean Divine

sunrise greets my day

sets the sky aflame
worries wash away
as I dive into the spray

cresting with foam
waves cascade down
current runs deep
tugs at my feet

sparkles like diamonds
flowing all thru time
only crash that settles my mind
she is ocean divine
ocean divine
